Film Photo Post

Quick little update for you all. Last weekend I took a little road trip out to Kelowna to compete in my first Tour de Bloc competition of the year. Mike and April Shannon own a little gym called Beyond the Crux and every year they put on a fantastic comp. This year wasn’t disappointing with a new wall and a huge turnout. I had only competed once or twice last year and I was determined just to go and have fun. My little bro lives and studies in Kelowna and it was a great opportunity for me to go and see him.

Finals was quite interesting. I got my ass HANDED to me on the first two problems and was sitting waiting to go on #3 with a frown on my face and some regret about entering the comp building up. By some luck, Ryan was sitting next to one his rest between problems, and he just gave me a pat on the back and told me to just have some fun. Next thing I know, on problem 3, I’m dangling from the final hold. Interestingly enough, this was the problem that my little brother both set and judged. Hmmm…no cheating, I swear. Just good sibling intuition!

All in all it was a great comp and I had a ton of fun.

Now back to school!

I leave you all with some film photos that I had tucked away and have scanned for your viewing pleasure. The black and white photos are from a Holga camera. Blurry pics, but fun nonetheless!

Enjoy and peace out.

Grandma Weldon Reads Urban Climber

January 16, 2010 - 7:37 pm No Comments

The first gorgeous sunny day in Vancouver of the year, smiles are bright, my friends are all eating powder at Whistler, and what am I doing? Sitting on my ass with textbook piled high around me. But still, I’m psyched. I am absolutely loving school, and it’s such an amazing feeling! This week was my first week in the hospital for my clinical section, and it was exhilarating, terrifying and exciting all at once (so much so that I had to have a nap when I got home). I also learned how to take blood pressures, which I must say, made me a very giddy school girl. Needless to say, Ryan now knows his blood pressure inside and out, as do numerous people that I cornered at the gym one night.
As I leave you all for the mound of homework I have yet to sink my teeth into, I invite you to take a peek at the world’s coolest grandma. That’s right, she reads Urban Climber! How wicked is that?

Boo-yah!

Merry New Year

It’s 2010. New decade, fancy that.

Let’s see. I’ve left you all hanging at the very edges of your seats around Christmas time. I’ll be honest, my posts are not going to be so action packed with fancy climbing pictures and fun stories for a while. I’m going to have to admit that the highschool-esque halls of BCIT (British Columbia Institute of Technology) are not quite as riveting as the pocketed monster walls of the Red River Gorge.

But I do have a few happy snaps for you all. My family (this includes Stacey’s boyfriend Phil aka Philard) took a nice trip to Big White, a wicked ski resort an hour outside of Kelowna. The littlest Weldon (quite ironic, as he is in fact quite large and hairy) aka Mike goes to school at UBCO in Kelowna, so he was our tour guide for the trip. We all had an amazing time, including a fun New Year’s at the local Big White bar.

On our last day, my mum and I decided to go cross country skiing. I had a blast, and am seriously considering getting myself a snazzy pair of those classic skis.

I also received the bestest ever present. My parents got me a new lens. A Nikon 35mm 1.8! Hurrah! Needless to say, all of my Christmas pictures are face shots. It’s glorious.

Well that’s all for the photos right now.

I have finally started my nursing program at BCIT. I’ve been dreaming of this program ever since I moved to Vancouver and discovered its existence. Its an intense 3 year program that will grant me a Registered Nurse title and a BScN. I’m more than stoked, considering my love for health, most people (wink) and traveling. BCIT is also reputed as the best Nursing school in BC. Needless to say I am going to be busy, but never too busy to have to stop climbing, for that would be madness. Lucky for me, BCIT is closing its doors during the Olympics so that eager touristas and event viewers can use the school parking lots to park their cars. Love it. So I have my boyfriend, Ryan, 95% convinced to go to Bishop for the 2 weeks that we both have off. I’ve never been to Bishop before (gasp!) so I am training to whip my butt into shape!

That’s all for now folks. I’ll try to post a few pictures here and there.

Until BISHOP!!!

Peace Out
